Problem Note 42142: A "Read Access Violation" error and abnormal termination of SAS might occur with the GEOCODE procedure

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

The following messages might be received when using the GEOCODE procedure to geocode an address data set:

ERROR: Read Access Violation In Task [ GEOCODE ] Exception occurred at (015BB5DF) Task Traceback Address Frame (DBGHELP API Version 4.0 rev 5) 015BB5DF 085CFA28 sashost:Main+0x1501B 66A8163A 085CFA44 saswgp:mcn_main+0x63A 66A81476 085CFA5C saswgp:mcn_main+0x476 6694998A 085CFA6C sasyoio:mcn_main+0x898A 07B27187 085CFA90 geocode:mcn_main+0x6187 07B2142A 085CFF8C geocode:mcn_main+0x42A 015B2854 085CFFA0 sashost:Main+0xC290 0169F038 085CFFB4 sashost:Main+0xF8A74 7C80B729 085CFFEC kernel32:GetModuleFileNameA+0x1BA

In addition to the messages, SAS might abnormally terminate.

The problem is most likely to occur when geocoding an address data set that contains more than 999 addresses.

To circumvent the problem, do one of the following:

  1. Separate your address data set into smaller data sets containing 999 observations or less and use PROC GEOCODE with each of the individual data sets.

  2. Invoke SAS using the LOGPARM="WRITE=IMMEDIATE" option.
